FAQ

Do not weigh excessive samples; add mixed perchloric and sulfuric acid. Pre-carbonize at low temperature before heating up, and add anti-bumping boiling stones to avoid rapid temperature rise.

Sulfuric acid volatilizes at high temperature and organic matter decomposes violently. Equip waste gas absorption device, operate entirely in fume hood, and control staged heating rate.

The digestion reaches the end when the liquid turns clear light blue-green. Incomplete digestion traps nitrogen inside carbon particles, leading to low titration results and invalid test data.

Two-stage heating is standard: 150 °C for carbonization and foam removal, 380–420 °C for high-temperature digestion. Too low temperature slows digestion; excessive temperature evaporates sulfuric acid and causes nitrogen loss.

Clean digestion tubes while hot after tests; regularly wipe furnace cavity with dilute alkali solution. Prevent long-term residual strong acid, and replace severely corroded tubes timely to avoid acid leakage damaging equipment.
