Friability Tester
The friability tester is a testing instrument used in the pharmaceutical industry to measure the degree of breakage of solid oral preparations such as tablets and capsules when subjected to external forces during packaging, handling and transportation. It is widely used in the pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries.

How to Choose the Right Friability Tester?
- Core Performance Parameters:
- Dual-drum: Compared to a single-drum tester, dual-drum testers can test two sets of samples simultaneously, offering higher efficiency.
- Setting and High Precision: The speed can be set within a certain range (25rpm), with an accuracy of ±1 rpm.
- Counting/Timing: The number of revolutions(0-99999 times) or time(0-9:59:00) can be precisely set.
- Automation and Intelligence: Features include an LCD display, preset programs, and automatic alarms.
- After-Sales Service: Drawell has a good reputation and offers one-year after-sales service, fast response times, and free technical training.
Applications of Friability Tester
| Industry | Application |
| Pharmaceutical | Fragility testing of pharmaceutical packaging materials to ensure safety during transportation and storage. |
| Academic research | Research and analysis of the fragility of new materials in the laboratory. |
| Food | Fragility testing of food packaging materials to protect food from damage. |
| Electronic and electrical | Fragility testing of electronic product casings and packaging materials to prevent product damage during transportation. |
| Glass manufacturing | Fragility testing of glass products to improve production processes and product quality. |
How Does a Friability Tester Work?
- Tablets of a certain weight and number are placed in a drum.
- The drum rotates at a fixed speed (e.g., 25 rpm) for a fixed number of revolutions (e.g., 100).
- The tablets are repeatedly raised and lowered, causing collisions and friction.
- At the end of the test, the friability is assessed by measuring the percentage of weight loss and observing the appearance (e.g., fragments and cracks).
- The lower the weight loss, the greater the mechanical strength of the tablet and the less likely it is to break.
What Advantages of Drawell’s Friability Tester?
✔ Accurate and repeatable results.
✔ Easy operation with programmable settings.
✔ Meets global pharmacopeia standards.
✔ Essential for R&D, production, and quality control.
What Factors Affect Tablet Friability?
- Tablet hardness (too soft → high friability).
- Compression force during manufacturing.
- Excipients used in formulation.
- Moisture content of the tablets.
- Coating (film-coated tablets usually show less friability).
